If you’re new to camping and wondering what on earth you’re going to cook without your kitchen at home—don’t worry! Camp cooking doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it’s one of the best parts of the outdoor experience. With a little planning and some simple gear, you’ll be whipping up delicious meals in no time.

At Valley View Caravan Park, we’ve seen campers of all skill levels make magic around the BBQ, the campfire, and in our fully equipped camp kitchen. So whether you're staying at one of our powered or unpowered sites, here’s your guide to getting started with easy camping meals that are big on flavour but low on fuss.

🔥 Camp Cooking Essentials

Before you hit the road, make sure you pack a few basics:

  • Portable stove or BBQ (unless you plan to use our onsite BBQs or kitchen)

  • Pan and pot, spatula, tongs, knife, chopping board

  • Esky or camp fridge

  • Foil, zip-lock bags, cooking oil, salt & pepper

  • Reusable plates, cutlery, cups – and don’t forget the marshmallow sticks!

🥘 Easy Meals to Try on Your Camping Trip

🍳 1. Classic Bacon & Eggs

You can’t beat a hearty breakfast! Fry up some bacon, eggs, and toast for an energy-packed start to your day. Add mushrooms or tomatoes for a little extra.

🥪 2. Build-Your-Own Sandwiches or Wraps

These are great for lunch and super flexible. Pack some salad ingredients, deli meats, hummus, and cheese, and let everyone create their own.

🌭 3. Sausage Sizzle

A camping staple! Cook sausages on the BBQ, toast the bread or rolls, and serve with onions and sauce. Quick, easy, and always a hit.

🍲 4. One-Pot Pasta or Rice

Bring some pre-chopped veggies and toss them into a pan with pasta or rice, a jar of sauce, and your choice of protein (chicken, tuna, lentils). One pot = less cleanup!

🥘 5. Foil Pack Meals (Campfire Favourites!)

Wrap chopped meat, potatoes, and veggies in foil with some oil and seasoning. Pop it on the coals or BBQ for an all-in-one meal. Easy to prep ahead of time, too.

🍫 6. S’mores or Campfire Marshmallows

It’s not camping without dessert! Roast marshmallows over the fire and sandwich them between chocolate and biscuits for a sweet treat everyone will love.

Bonus Tips for Beginner Camp Cooks
